For some hard riders, the word career is a verb, not a noun.

They set out to do one thing and eight seconds or eight years or 38 years later they find themselves doing another, often after careering across the arena and slamming into the railings on the back of an enraged, 1,800-pound Bovine Explosive Device (a BED), otherwise known as a bull.
