Ruiz named Artist of the Month
The Arts & Humanities Council has chosen Magda “Maggie” Ruiz as Artist of the Month for November. Ms. Ruiz was honored by the Board of County Commissioners with a proclamation on Nov. 10.
Her work can be viewed at the Charlotte Community Foundation, 1675 W. Marion Ave, Ste. 111, Punta Gorda through Dec. 30.
A native of Puerto Rico and an avid traveler, Ms. Ruiz has developed a love and expertise of light and color. She feels her career as an artist, teacher, mother and registered respiratory therapist has given her a passion for life. In teaching others, she guides and cultivates the skills of her students and finds herself stimulated and inspired in return.
Ms. Ruiz, with her friend artist Fran Petrow, designed and painted the mural “Churches of the Sacred Heart” last spring. They are participating in Artsensation 2009 on Nov. 21 at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center as “Fragda Murals.”
