COURTESY PHOTO Online and phone registration is open for Venice Theatre’s summer adult classes and TheatreFest ’17, the popular annual children’s theatre camp. There are five camp sessions and a variety of adult classes being offered. In each session, the students will learn about what it takes to put on a show and see how the theatre runs.

Five TheatreFest sessions for students going into grades one through 12 are being offered this summer. For students who have completed second grade through teens, there are two three-week morning sessions (best suited for beginners) and one six-week afternoon theatrical extravaganza (best suited for more experienced students). The first morning session begins June 7. The second morning session begins June 26. Both run from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and both will conclude with a musical production on the theater’s MainStage.

Students enrolled in the six-week theatrical experience will rehearse and perform “Disney’s My Son Pinocchio Jr.” This brand-new offering gives the students the opportunity to perform in a fully produced musical on MainStage. The show retells the classic tale from Geppetto’s perspective, and includes a host of delightful characters such as magical fairies and mischievous roustabouts. It features beloved songs such as “When You Wish Upon a Star” and “I’ve Got No Strings” alongside new songs by Tony, Oscar and Grammy Award winner Stephen Schwartz. The students will help build some of the technical aspects of the show. This session runs from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning June 7.

Additional offerings include Theatre- Fest for children who have completed kindergarten and/or first grade. Children rotate daily between singing, dancing, creative dramatics and technical theatre classes. This two-week afternoon session runs fro 1 to 4 p.m. beginning July 18.

Seventh through 12th graders interested in the magical and practical world of backstage, should enroll in TechFest. They will help mount technical aspects and participate in the backstage crew of “Disney’s My Son Pinocchio.” TechFest is limited to just six students and runs from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 5 through 21.

Adult offerings are for men and women 18 years and older. Peter Ivanov will be instructing “Express Yourself Through Theatre,” where students will create and perform original theatre, and “Brush up Your Shakespeare,” a perfect class to get ready for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” auditions. Other adult classes beginning in mid to late June include “Acting Like an Adult II,” “Keep on Tapping!” and “Creative Dramatics for Adults with Developmental Challenges.”

All classes take place at the theatre, 140 W. Tampa Ave. Advanced registration and a non–refundable payment in full is required. Scholarships are available on an as-needed basis. Details are available at Venice Theatre’s box office, at www.venicestage.com or in the Education and Outreach Office.
