Denim & Diamonds features dinner, concert

Leadership Charlotte Class of 2017 is having a major fundraising gala called Denim & Diamonds on Saturday, May 20, at the Charlotte County Fairgrounds, 2333 El Jobean Road, Port Charlotte. Funds raised will support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Charlotte County, the Homeless Coalition, Crossroads Hope Academy, Port Charlotte Pirates Football and Junior Leadership Charlotte.

This will be a Country & Westernthemed night with a barbecue dinner catered by Whiskey Creek Grill, plus a cash bar. In addition, there will be mechanical bull rides, DJ, dancing, silent and live auctions, a wine rack game and raffles.

The highlight of the night will be a live concert at 8:30 p.m. by Nashville artist Logan Dressel.

Doors open at 5 p.m. for the 6 p.m. dinner. Tickets are $75 for the dinner and concert, $25 for the concert only. Englewood Bank collects goods for troops

Kevin Hagan, president of Englewood Bank & Trust, announced that the bank will serve as a collection point for nonperishable food items and toiletries for the Rotary Club of Englewood’s Food for the Troops drive through the month of May.

Those wishing to support our Troops may donate at any of the bank’s four offices during regular business hours: 1111 S. McCall Road, Englewood; 8725 Placida Road, Cape Haze; 301 Park Ave., Boca Grande; and 12651 S. McCall Road, Gulf Cove. Memorial Day Veterans 10k and 5k Race

The fourth annual Memorial Day Veterans 10k and 5k Race will take place at 7 a.m. Monday, May 29, at Laishley Park in Punta Gorda. It’s Our Turn! Inc., the race organizer, contributes 100 percent of the race proceeds to local veterans in need. This year, the organization is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a veteran.

This is the first year the race will have a virtual run. Anyone from anywhere in the world can sign up to participate. Sign up to run, walk or volunteer at www.memorialdayrace.org.

C.A.R.E. presents comedy show

The Center for Abuse and Rape Emergencies Auxiliary of Charlotte County will hold its third annual “Comedy for a Cause” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Visani Restaurant and Comedy Theater, 2400 Kings Highway, Port Charlotte.
